Bleaching – Teeth Whitening

Bleaching - Teeth Whitening

The procedures performed to remove teeth that are darker than normal due to the enamel and dentin structure and discolorations that occur for various reasons are called TEETH WHITENING - BLEACHING.

With the teeth whitening process, a few shades of whitening can be achieved harmlessly. The materials used during teeth whitening are for professional use and are made with specially prepared medications after a dentist examination. Agents sold in cosmetics that are not made under the supervision of a dentist are very ineffective and can damage dental structures.

Food residues accumulated on the teeth, stains caused by tea - coffee - cigarette use and brushing habits are cleaned with tartar and plaque cleaning in the office and subsequent polishing. After these procedures, the teeth are ready for teeth whitening.

Bleaching is applied in 2 ways:

Home Bleaching (Applied at Home):
It is a method that you can apply at home with the guidance and instructions of your dentist. A personalized whitening plate is prepared with the measurement taken from the patient's mouth. When you go to bed at night, a water-based whitening medicine is placed into this plate, and the teeth are whitened with the plate and medicine left in the mouth throughout the night. This process is applied for 7 - 10 days, depending on the amount of whitening of the teeth and achieving the desired result.

Office Bleaching (Applied in the Clinic):
It is a whitening process performed by a Dentist when rapid whitening is desired. The gums are isolated, medication is applied to the teeth, and blue light used in irradiated fillings is applied to them to increase the effectiveness of the medication. The process is terminated when the desired whiteness is achieved after repeated sessions. However, recent studies recommend that home teeth whitening be continued as a supplement after office teeth whitening.

What Should Be Considered in Bleaching Treatment?
Bleaching is a procedure that must be performed under the supervision of a Dentist and by strictly following the instructions. Decays, cracks, and broken areas in the teeth may cause the chemical used to act there and cause damage. Such dental problems must be eliminated before the whitening process. During the whitening process, coloring foods such as tea, coffee and cigarettes should be avoided, and regular brushing and care procedures should be applied carefully.
